Assistant Instructor Sammy de la Garza is a 1st Degree Black Belt in American Kenpo Karate under Sifu Jim Dryburgh and assists with classes at PowerKenpo martial arts, self-defense and karate school.
Sammy de la Garza is in high school. He's the youngest student to reach 1st Degree Black Belt, but he started young. He was in the first group of students to be promoted to Junior Black Belt, and he stayed in the program, working through the adult system to reach 1st Degree Black Belt.
Sammy can be found at the studio 4 or 5 days a week, training and helping to teach Little Dragons, Juniors, and Adults. He's about to receive his certification as a C.O.B.R.A. Self Defense instructor, and he helps with self defense camps, clinics, and academies.
Sammy lives in Carrollton, TX and helps Sifu Jim Dryburgh teach PowerKenpo martial arts classes at local Dallas schools during the week, working mostly with Juniors and Little Dragons.
"I love to spar especially when there is a circle with like four or five kids trying to land punches or kicks on me. It helps me figure out how to change my reactions and deal with more than one opponent at a time."

Sammy is in 9th grade, where his favorite subjects are math, reading ... and American Kenpo Karate! He became interested in martial arts when his friend gave him a free coupon to PowerKenpo nearly seven years ago.
