Sifu Jim Dryburgh is a fourth degree black belt in American Kenpo Karate and leads many of the classes at PowerKenpo martial arts, self-defense and karate school.
When Sifu Jim Dryburgh moved to Dallas from California in 1993, he and his brother started taking American Kenpo Karate classes under Sifu Rick Fowler in Irving.
"I was hooked from the first private lesson with Fowler," says Dryburgh. "We finished the first class with combinations against 'focus mitts' ... and that's when I decided I would eventually become a black belt in Kenpo."
Sifu Drybugh opened PowerKenpo in the fall of 2002 after receiving his second degree black belt. The school has quickly become the most family friendly martial arts school in the Dallas metropolitan area, primarily due Dryburgh's relaxed way of teaching children and families.
"I really like the flow and relaxation that Kenpo offers. It's essentially en elegant art. The belt progression from yellow to orange to purple and so on makes it easy for students to move ahead, offering a rewarding and gradual incentive for progress."
