Students learn to spar at PowerKenpo using protective gear to prevent injury. As they progress in training, new techniques are introduced, including: mixed martial arts, joint locks and throws, general self-defense and more.
Mixed martial arts is a full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques, from a mixture of martial arts traditions and non-traditions, to be used in competitions. The rules allow the use of striking and grappling techniques, both while standing and on the ground. Such competitions allow martial artists of different backgrounds to compete.
Modern mixed martial arts competition emerged in American popular culture in 1993 with the founding of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The sport has seen increased popularity with pay per view reach rivaling boxing and professional wrestling. Students of American Kenpo Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling and other martial arts disciplines often feature prominently in UFC competitions.
At PowerKenpo, we teach our instructors and students to control themselves and their bodies from day one. This allows our beginning students to spar with others after only a few introductory classes and learn real-world application of the skills taught in class.
Sign up for a freee introductory class today, and let your instructor know you're interested in sparring.
